Creating discount codes

Set up percentage or fixed-amount codes for products.

Go to Discount Codes (Pro and above) to create a code customers can enter at checkout for a percentage or fixed-amount discount.

Setting up a code

  • Code: what customers type at checkout, e.g. SAVE20.
  • Discount type: percentage off (e.g. 20%) or a fixed amount off (e.g. ₦5,000).
  • Max uses: optional. Leave blank for unlimited uses, or cap it, e.g. to run a limited-time offer.
  • Expiry date: optional. The code stops working automatically after this date.
  • Applies to: the whole cart, or a single specific product.

How discounts are capped

A fixed-amount discount never takes an order below zero. If a code is set to discount a specific product, it is capped at that product's subtotal rather than the whole cart, so a large fixed discount on a cheap item cannot accidentally subsidize the rest of the order.

Discount codes vs. campaigns

Discount codes require the customer to know and enter a code, which makes them a good fit for influencer promotions, email newsletters, or word-of-mouth offers. If you want a sale that applies automatically to everyone browsing your storefront, with a banner announcing it, use Running a campaign instead.
